Characterization of pyrolytic fluid components

The Bioenergy Area of UDT develops several projects on fast pyrolysis of biomass to obtain pyrolytic fluid, also known as "Bio Oil”. This product is composed of hundreds of products generated by the thermal treatment the biomass is subjected to during a very small space of time.

The Chemicals Area, in turn, is developing and validating analytical methodology to identify and quantify the components of highest interest. Among them the head space GC-MS technique for volatile components, and the HPLC-MS for heaviest components stand out.
