Composite materials
UDT has been working for several years on the development of wood-plastic composite, mainly on products for the construction industry such as modules for port and aquaculture infrastructure in the southern and Austral region of Chile.
In turn, the biodegradable packaging segment is particularly attractive to Chile because of the importance of horticultural exports, whose destination is usually the Northern Hemisphere, and the increasing demands on this attribute by some markets. In this sense, the work developed by the UDT-CCTE is related to the development of thermoplastic blends that meet the attributes of mechanical resistance, some gases permeability/impermeability, resistance to humidity and UV rays and compatibility with food and other materials.
