Continuation of the National Registry of Facilities that Store, Use and/or Produce Hazardous Chemicals

In June 2009, CONAMA awarded UDT the study called "Development of a National Registry of Chemical Industries and Risk Map", for which a methodology was developed to collect information on hazardous chemicals in the industrial facilities identified and a methodology to develop risk maps. Information was collected with regard to the location and characterization of chemical industries in 10 regions of the country. A poll was taken and risk maps were generated related to events with chemicals at each facility identified in two priority regions, Antofagasta and Bio Bio. The objectives of this second stage is to:

 - Expand the identification and registration of the industries that handle chemicals in the country through information from MINSAL and other institutions.

- Build an information basis for decision-making based on a territorial nature in terms of minimizing risks associated to the management of chemicals.

- Define relevant regulations requiring the provision of information by the facilities, as well as the regular updating of such information.

The period envisaged for the project execution is five months, starting in August.
