Gaseous fuels
Forest biomass can be converted thermochemically at high temperatures and in absence of oxygen to give low molecular products. At atmpospheric conditions these products are gases and can serve mainly two purposes:
- energy source via combustion, directly or after methane enrichment
- raw material for chemical synthesis, which requires hydrogen enrichment to give synthesis gas
CCTE-UDT plans to evaluate production of gaseous products rich in methane, to supply current requirements of natural gas for transportation, suuply which importation has been drastically restricted by Chile´s main provider Argentina.
