It is essential for CONICYT that national researchers have cutting-edge equipment. Therefore, the Associative Research Program (PIA) held the Contest to Support the Scientific Infrastructure of Research Centers and Groups, which will benefit 18 different research groups and centers of excellence with 20 scientific infrastructure projects (involving 58 proposals). Each of those selected will receive an average of $140 million to purchase cutting-edge infrastructure and scientific equipment to strengthen the work of their research lines.
Reports of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities and the Chilean Academy of Sciences agreed on the need to acquire more sophisticated equipment and infrastructure to lead Chilean research to the frontier of knowledge.
Among the centers that will receive this benefit are the Technological Development Unit (UDT) of the Universidad de Concepción, the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM), the Center for Oceanographic Research in the Eastern-South Pacific (COPAS), the Science for Life Foundation, the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (IEB), the Centre for Quaternary Studies of Fuego and Patagonia (CEQUA), the Center of Excellence in Astrophysics and Related Technologies (CATA), the Science and Technology Center of Valparaiso, the Research Center in Ecosystems of Patagonia (CIEP), the Center for Scientific Studies (CECS), the Research and Development Center (CIEN Austral), the Center for Advanced Studies in Arid Zones (CEAZA) and the Centre for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA).
Associative Research Program of CONICYT
The Associative Research Program (PIA) was created in 2009 with the aim of coordinating different instruments to initiatives that support the associative research and promotion of research centers of excellence.
The PIA has three lines of action that provide support to Research Groups (Research Rings), Research and Development Centers (R&D) and Scientific and Technological Equipment.
